1. Gender Diversity/Beyond Binary Recently, the view of gender identity has become broader. There is a growing understanding of gender in which there are more than two traditional options (ie male and female). In response, more companies around the world are launching inclusive products that eschew gender labels and colors. Of all age groups, Generation Z is the most likely to expect gender-neutral options. For example, 59% of Gen Z expect to see gender-neutral options, compared to 40% of Boomers.

2. Conscious consumption The pursuit of greener habits is changing the way we live, from everyday choices to major life milestones. There is a major shift towards more conscious consumption as people reassess their impact on the planet. For many, this means using fewer products, choosing organic ones, and controlling waste disposal. According to a Nielsen study, 81% of people strongly agree that companies should tackle the environmental crisis and climate change.

3. In I asked for the balance/Finding balance The word wellness still evokes for many people associations with luxurious spas or relaxing holidays. However, over the next year, people will approach wellness in a much more simple and down-to-earth way as they look for new easy, healthy habits to cope with anxiety, stress and burnout. Some will develop a new daily routine, some will start journaling, while others will prefer to dance around the room. Whatever you choose, there are plenty of simple ways to get your daily dose of positivity.

4. Home as the center of the world/Home hub Of course, according to the famous saying “home is where the heart is”. But now home is also an office, a gym, and maybe even your vacation spot. Thanks to new technologies and flexible office policies, it has never been easier to spend all your time at home. This means big growth in industries like home decor and fitness, along with delivery services. Set up a conference call from the couch, join a workout from the living room, and then enjoy a beer brewed in the backyard. It seems like there really is no place like home these days.

5. Adopt world experience/Internationally inspired The world now seems smaller than ever. Thanks to modern communications, people in all areas easily exchange their traditions and share experiences, which certainly affects everyone. Today’s travelers prefer more important pursuits than ordinary tourist destinations: they go to take part in special culinary master classes and attend craft workshops. Back home, they try to recreate this experience in their kitchen and interior.

6. Pets/Pampered pets Now people treat their pets the same way they treat their family members. And in some cases even paradoxically better. Pet care has reached unprecedented heights. We’re talking about farm-to-table dog food, playgrounds and even cat fashion. Increasingly, millennials, who easily give up on traditional marriage, are turning to furry pets for the perfect bond. And this love has economic expression: in the UK, more than 50% of pet owners aged 19 to 38 said they would rather cut costs on themselves than on their pets.

7. Responsible travel Like many other industries, tourism is in a phase of rethinking as people seek to minimize their impact on the planet while exploring new places. For some travelers, this means keeping a closer eye on their own impact on the environment. They prefer cleaner methods of public transport, stopping at new places relatively close to their city rather than in remote areas. In Sweden, they even came up with new terms to refer to the eco-friendly habits of travelers: flyskam (“flying shame”) and tagkryt (“train boasting”). People are still looking for adventure – but they need more planet-friendly options.

8. Call of the Wild/Re-wilding Recently, the desire to be surrounded by untouched nature began to be denoted by the term Re-wilding (from the word wild – wild). In the context of trends, it means “the call of the wild, urging you to go outside.” Nature is the perfect antidote to digital fatigue, artificial lighting and sedentary lifestyles and all the culture that comes with it. Just getting outside can reduce stress and boost your energy levels, whether you’re honing your survival skills or learning new outdoor hobbies. For others, even indoor plants seem like a breath of fresh air. So if you’re a thrill-seeker or more of an “eat-out-of-the-counter” type, it might be time to put down your screens and enjoy nature again.

9. Space tourism / Space everything In 2020, a new round of the space race. Half a century after the first moon landing, space tourism is finally a reality. The first space hotel by 2027 has already been announced. As companies gear up for potential launch dates for new space objects, people are starting to really think about their space dreams. An additional impetus is given by the current orientation related to the interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) educational topics. Whether you’re into science or sci-fi, there’s sure to be something to appeal to about this year’s new space exploration theme.

10. Back to the 90s/90s rerun Today, many people prefer to live the same lifestyle as in 1999. We’re seeing ’90s references everywhere, from high fashion runways to retro gadgets. For many, this desire means a nostalgic return to a more carefree era. As millennials get older, they relive fond memories and are united by shared experiences. Meanwhile, Generation Z is discovering ’90s trends for the first time and bringing their own take on the trends, from modernized scrunchies to sequins. So if you want to be on trend, put on a hat and pick up a CD player.
