A beautiful headboard, a bed decoration that was forgotten for a decade has once again become an integral part of bedrooms. This happened, undoubtedly, under the influence of luxury boutique hotels. However, there is another important factor: the headboard turns out to be very practical at a time when many people began to work from home – for some it is convenient to check email on a laptop in bed.

The massive head of the bed plays a special role in the collective unconscious. It is a definite symbol of power, just like a canopy with heavy curtains or a king’s richly decorated bed. It was often from the bed that the sovereign gave his orders – thus, several centuries ago, the headboard was not an object of decoration and spectacle, but had a real practical function: one leaned against it, since the custom was to sleep half-sitting, rather than lying down. And, of course, the headboard served as protection from the cold walls.

Today’s headboards are a symbol of style, not power. They often use raw or, conversely, skillfully crafted materials, and the budget can be anything. The market offers a wide selection of materials suitable for any interior: wood, fabric, cane, leather, metal. If necessary, the headboard can repeat the upholstery of the bed, rhyme with the walls or curtains – or, if required, you can invite a craftsman who can make a headboard of any size to order: along the width of the bed, from wall to wall, or vertically (from floor to ceiling ) to give the room a sense of height.

The latest headboard models for 2021 create a feeling of coziness. Their shape often forms a kind of cocoon around the bed. The lines are smooth – with downward curved edges on both sides of the bed. Often the headboard turns out to be combined: its design includes bedside shelves, lighting, sockets and even cabinets. It can even become a structuring element and transform into a bookcase, storage or even hide a dressing room.
